About the Author
A former classroom teacher, Nancy L. Witherell is a professor at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate reading courses. She has presented at numerous state and national conferences and remains active in teaching children through numerous consultancies.

Mary C. McMackin is professor emerita from the Language and Literacy Division of the Graduate School of Education at Lesley University, where she taught graduate literacy courses for 20 years. Until recently, she served as the Lesley University coordinator of the Lesley/Urban Teacher Center partnership, a clinically based teacher preparation master s degree program offered in Baltimore, MD, and Washington, D.C. She was also the faculty mentor for the literacy courses in the Lesley/UTC partnership. Mary has co-authored nine literacy books for K-8 teachers and has published several articles in journals, such as The Reading Teacher, Phi Delta Kappan, and Childhood Education. Mary serves on the board of the Massachusetts Reading Association and has spoken at conferences across the United States.

Excellent Resource

This book is an excellent resource for anyone teaching reading. The worksheets can be utilized with any book though suggestions are given. The worksheets hit almost every important reading topic a 5th grader needs to know. Getting a different assignment than their neighbor has not been an issue for any of my students. This book allows each student in my class to get practice with the same topic but on their own academic level. I plan on ordering this book for writing as well!

Great Resource

I think this book is a great resource in a language arts class. Some of the worksheets might need better explanations or a little tweaking, but overall there are some good worksheets that help teach common elements like main idea, setting, and making predictions.
