Shakespeare for today's reader

The book is exactly what it purports to be -- the original with a modern translation for readers with little knowledge of Elizabethan English.
For the same reason the King James Bible (1611) -- contemporary to Shakespeare, who was a member of the King's Men acting troupe -- has been translated into a variety of modern languages, this book does not replace the original nor its poetic, yet often challenging language. The modern text appears immediately after the original.
Though one may quibble over the modern paraphrase, the intent is not to be a word-for-word equivalent, but a simple rendering of words and phrases that have fallen out of common use over the past 400 years.
To the editors' credit, they help make the text accessible for today's readers and include a helpful introduction to the play. As a college English teacher, I enjoyed reading through Shakespeare's original and then comparing the modern wording with how I might have re-phrased the text.
This is a great idea that will, hopefully, open the canon of Shakespeare to more readers today.

Interesting and Informative Read

I am in the process of reading this book on my Kindle. Since the time allotted for my reading of this Shakespearean play is rather short, I didn't want to wrestle with it too much. The "hybrid arrangement" of this book is just what I am needing... Shakespeare's words followed by a modern "translation." I highly recommend this version of the play unless one wants to wrestle with the Queen's English.

Excellent bilingual version

Excellent bilingual (Shakespearian English - modern English) version. After reading it I was able to watch the play live (in Shakespearian English) and understand (almost) everything (and I'm not a native speaker of English). I would definitely recommend it.
