A bit of a stretch

While imaginative and very, very different from any other P & P variation I might have read before, it is not believable on any level and not a pleasant reading experience. It is a bit more of a soap opera than I'm comfortable with. Parts of it are slow and go around and around the same plot point for what seems an eternity. Other parts are rushed. Few parts are realistic or believable either on their own or in reference to P & P. There are times when the characters are parodies of the originals, and subtlety never makes an appearance.
The plot is awkward for many reasons:
--Elizabeth and Darcy as star-crossed lovers is not very typical, but I suppose it could be made to work under some conditions. (Actually, I would like to see that concept done well someday.)
--Caroline Bingley as a psychopath is a bit overdone and does not make for pleasant reading. She is, in effect, the most important character, the one that drives all the action and around whom all events unfold. All the other characters are, for the most part, just reacting to Caroline or events triggered by Caroline.
--The trips to India are not a believable plot device when you consider what such a trip entailed in the 19th century in terms of time, danger, and difficulty. Surely, Scotland or Wales would have been more realistic and I see no reason why the problems could not have been solved a little closer to home. (At one point, we have Elizabeth, Darcy, Caroline, Georgianna, Lydia, and Fitzwilliam all in India).
While I appreciate the author trying (and succeeding at) giving the reader a completely different and original approach, I think she tried a little too hard.

Just shy of a full saga

The story picks up after Lydia's flight, but switches things around initially by having Darcy fail to find the errant couple, and goes on from there. Truly, beautifully written with care and attention to the correct details of the era, as best I can tell, this romantic drama has it all! All the original characters appear amongst the angst, romance and intrigue, as the story flows from London to Pemberley to India interspersed with excellent concise descriptives and very apt inserts of poetry by Shelley that even I took the time to read. This is a fine story, just short of a full saga that I believe many readers will immensely enjoy. Having read the story, prior to this publication, the biggest problem was a vague title which has now been perfectly amended. Mr. Darcy's Pursuit is most fitting. As this was the first book of its type that I recommended to others with enthusiasm, I can't wait to read this revised edition. Ordering today.

A Different Approach

This book blew my mind in spots. The approach the authors took was troubling at first to me but as the book went along it got better. Carolyn's story is definitely the highlight of the book. What's the old saying about be careful what you wish for? My only complaint is I would have liked to have read more about Darcy's interaction with his kids to me it was to quickly ran through. I would have also liked read more about Georgiana and Fitzwilliam. Too much recapping of situations told on three separate occasions. When Carolyn met her fate though I found it fitting and very enjoyable also Darcy's reactions to her on several occasions were very enjoyable and definitely a delight to read. I would recommend this book to anyone and to anyone who is concerned about the sexual content it is there but could have used some work. **SPOILER** Darcy seemed more hot and sensual when he was with Carolyn briefly. It's not that it was all that bad it was just blahh.
