A fascinating read

I really enjoyed this book. It's a world I knew nothing about, and it was fascinating to read. I don't normally read this kind of book but I took a chance on it - I'm glad I did - I couldn't put it down, I really recommend this book.
The preface warns you how dark the story is: 'This is a strange tale that deals with an extraordinary world, but the men in it are real enough. Carlos Evertsz the assassin is not a paperback villain but a man of flesh and blood still in our midst today, a real life double agent who has been licensed to kill. Dr Manuel Sosa the demoniac intelligence chief with a taste for orgies and blackmail, Haitian voodoo, torture and murder, is also alive and well.' Even with the warning though some of the violence takes you by surprise, it seems so commonplace to the people involved.
If you want to find out how assassins, the CIA, the police are all caught up together, this is the book for you!

Truly astonishing story and writing

This is probably one of the best books I've ever read. The story is gripping from start to finish - except that it never really finishes, because you're left with the feeling that the Assassin is still out there ... lurking ... somewhere. The prose is crisp, authoritative and engaging - not surprising when you find out it's by a writer who went on to pen such best-sellers as The Ravens and The Test of Courage. I was so sad to learn he passed away last year and won't be producing any more masterpieces like this one.

Not bad overall. I googled the assassins name and came up with an interesting interview on Spanish tv concerning a contract hit job offer he had recently turned down. Apparently someone assassinated the assassin around 2002 for talking to the media about the hit contract he was turned down.
