2 VERY GOOD NOVELS, 3 GOOD NOVELS, AND A LOUSY PUBLISHER

How hard is it to publish a collection of novels in the right order? If you're Penguin Publishers, it's obviously impossible. Given the price the publisher charges for this collection, and Amazon constantly reminds buyers that Penguin is setting the price here, one might have expected that they could at least get the order of the books right! Putting aside Penguin price-gouging and incompetence, the novels made up quite a good collection of fun reading. For those fans of Nora Roberts as JD Robb, I have to agree with a previous reviewer (on the Kindle site) who noted the striking similarity of Althea (in Nightshade) to Eve (of the In Death novels). My two favorites in this collection are Night Shift and Nightshade. Both have that fascinating mixture of tenderness and toughness that I find so compelling in the best of the Robb novels.
As a help for future readers of this collection, here is the order you'll want to use to read these novels if you care about such things as chronology:
1. Night Shift features Boyd Fletcher, a cop and Cilla O'Roarke (don't call her Priscilla), a disk jockey
2. Night Shadow features Deborah O'Roarke, an Assistant DA and Gage Guthrie, former cop and current entrepreneur. Deborah is the sister of Boyd Fletcher.
3. Nightshade features Althea Grayson, a cop and former partner of Boyd Fletcher (promoted to Captain) and Colt Nightshade, private investigator.
4. Night Smoke features Natalie Fletcher, a businesswoman (and sister of Captain Boyd Fletcher) and Ryan Piasecki, an arson investigator.
5. Night Shield features Allison Fletcher (daughter of Boyd and Cilla Fletcher), a cop and Jonah Blackhawk, nightclub owner, previously a juvenile delinquent, reformed by Boyd Fletcher.

Another Classic series

This is a collection of 5 books that are interconnected with characters. This was written for her "Silhouette" series. It has some mystery and a little supernatural in it. However, being a "Silhouette" the length of each book is around 200 pages as compared with her current 500-600 page books. Therefore, the characters have less depth to them, the story line is not as complex, these books do not have secondary story lines often. However, for the genre these are interesting, quick reads.

Love the books but in the right order

I read these books before and still enjoy them. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors. The only thing I was upset about was the order of the books. I haven't read them in a long time so couldn't remember which order to read them in and counted on Amazon to have them in the right order, They weren't. The book that should have been third was last. I always want to read a series in order so it doesn't spoil the other books for me. Amazon should be a little more careful when putting together these collections, if they are the ones putting them together. If not than whoever is responsible should be careful and do it right. But I still loved the books and will probably read them a third time, in order that is.
